About Andrew Begg

Andrew read law at Exeter University, after which he attended the Inns of Court School of Law and was admitted to the degree of Utter Barrister at Lincoln’s Inn. He returned to Jersey (the Island of his birth) and joined the firm Michael Voisin & Co (now Voisins), working as a Legal Assistant, running the firm’s Litigation Department. He subsequently moved to Crill Cubit Sowden & Tomes, then the biggest law firm in the Island, as Litigation Assistant to Advocate Francis Hamon, who later became Deputy Bailiff of Jersey.

Having acquired some experience of Intellectual Property Law whilst studying for his Bar exams in London, an opportunity then arose for Andrew to join Spoor & Fisher, a South African firm of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys, as the partner in waiting of their Jersey office. Whilst at Spoor & Fisher, Andrew passed his Jersey Advocates’ exams and was called to the Jersey Bar on 27th November 1985.

After a brief time in partnership with two Senior Advocates in the firm Cridland, Begg & Valpy, Andrew established Andrew Begg & Co in March 1986, initially specialising in litigation. Andrew acted in a number of high profile trust cases and in the meantime established a Trust Company, ABC Trust Company Limited, of which he was Chairman from 1992 to 2003. As his client base grew, Andrew started doing an increasing amount of private client work both locally and internationally and that is the main basis of his current practice.
